Attendance
All pupils need to attend school regularly to benefit from their education and ensure that they can fulfil their potential. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind.
As a school we:
- Promote and celebrate good attendance and the reduction of absences, including persistent absence
- Ensure every pupil has access to full-time education to which they are entitled
- Act early to address patterns of absence, support families and pupils in having good attendance
Parents are expected to:
- Perform their legal duty by ensuring their children attend regularly
- Inform us, by 8.45am, with any reasons for absence
- Allow us to support where necessary with absences and persistent absences to improve attendance
"Attendance is something that we always work hard at here at Water Hall. Learning is important and we have to make sure that children are at school in order to make progress. We have weekly attendance awards for all year groups. The attendance is based on the previous week. The class that wins the weekly award, receives the attendance cup to display in their classroom and an extra playtime. Then the class that has the most attendance awards in the half term wins a non school uniform day. The children have been extremely competitive and it is great to see that they are encouraging each other to be in school, working as a team to win. It has been lovely to see that some weeks classes have achieved 100% attendance. This is amazing and will have such a positive impact on learning. Well done. Presenting the awards on a Friday is most certainly the highlight of my week."
